Dumpster Rental Frequently Asked Questions
Indianapolis, IN

Here are some of the most common questions we receive about our dumpster rentals and DIY junk removal services in the Indianapolis area. Every project is different, so if you don’t see your question answered here, feel free to contact us at (317) 000-0000 — our team is always happy to help you choose the right dumpster and understand the rental process.
Red Dog Dumpsters provides mini roll-off dumpster rentals throughout Indianapolis and surrounding communities. Our customers include homeowners, contractors, property managers, Realtors®, and anyone looking for an easy way to get rid of debris during renovations, cleanouts, or small construction projects. Our compact roll-off units are driveway-friendly, easy to load, and delivered on smaller trucks that won’t tear up your property. If you’re looking for a simple, affordable junk removal alternative in Indianapolis, Red Dog is here to help.

Because our dumpsters are roughly the size of a small car, many customers choose to have them placed inside the garage for discreet, weather-protected loading. As a locally owned company, we work hard to make your rental experience clean, efficient, and stress-free from start to finish.

Give us a call anytime—we’ll walk you through the rental process, answer questions, and schedule a guaranteed delivery date. In many cases, same-day service is available when ordering before noon.

Who can rent a dumpster?

Anyone! We serve:

  • Homeowners and DIY remodelers
  • Businesses and office managers
  • Real estate agents and landlords
  • Community organizations
  • Small and mid-sized contractors

We also work with large construction teams when they need smaller dumpsters for tight job sites or quick turnover projects.

Can I put the dumpster on the street?

Street placement rules vary by Indianapolis municipality and neighborhood. Some areas require permits, while others prohibit street placement entirely. Always check with your local city or county office before placing a dumpster on public property.

Note: Red Dog Dumpsters does not obtain permits on your behalf.

How high can I load my dumpster?

For safety reasons, all debris must stay below the top edge of the dumpster. When we pick up your container, the driver secures the load with a tarp. If debris sticks up beyond the rails, the dumpster cannot be transported. Overloaded dumpsters must be leveled out before removal, and fees may apply if unsafe loading delays pickup.

How high can I load my dumpster?
The driver will put a tarp over the load for containment during transport upon pickup. We ask that you don’t load any material above the top rails of the dumpster that will interfere with the tarp.
What items cannot go into the dumpster?

Certain materials are restricted due to landfill regulations and safety requirements. Items not allowed include:

  • Batteries
  • Paint or paint liquids
  • Rock, dirt, concrete, or masonry debris
  • Propane tanks
  • Chemicals, solvents, oils, or Freon
  • Medical or biohazard waste

Some items may be accepted for an additional fee:

  • Tires – $25 each
  • Mattress / Box Springs – $25 each
  • Roofing shingles (10-yard dumpsters only) – $65 surcharge

If you’re unsure about an item, just ask—we’ll guide you in the right direction.

What about roofing shingles?

Shingles are extremely heavy, so we only recommend a 10-yard dumpster for roofing projects. A 10-yard container holds up to 20 squares of shingles, with a required $65 disposal surcharge.

What size dumpster do I need?

The right size depends on your project. We offer:

  • 10-yard dumpsters – great for small remodels, attic/basement cleanouts, and roofing jobs
  • 15-yard dumpsters – ideal for larger cleanouts, multi-room projects, and moderate renovation debris

If you’re unsure, call our Indianapolis team and we’ll help you choose the most cost-effective size.

What type of debris can you dispose of?

We accept most common waste from:

  • Home renovations
  • Moving and estate cleanouts
  • Garage, attic, and basement decluttering
  • Small demolition projects

However, due to EPA regulations, we cannot accept:

  • Biohazard or medical waste
  • Wet paint (dry cans are okay)
  • Batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Chemicals, liquids, or fuel
  • Appliances containing Freon
  • Items with gasoline or oil still inside

If you need to dispose of restricted items, we can point you to the proper disposal agency.

How much trash will you haul away?
Each dumpster has a weight allowance based on its size. Our customer service team will review these limits when you place your order. As long as your load stays within the designated weight, we handle all disposal costs included in your flat-rate price.
How far in advance should I schedule a dumpster?

For best availability—especially on Mondays and Fridays—we recommend booking a few days in advance. That said, we know that project timelines often change. When possible, orders placed before noon can be delivered the same day, depending on availability. Most next-day requests are easily accommodated.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take preventive measures on every delivery. Our drivers place protective boards under the dumpster to minimize surface impact. However, heavy containers and unstable ground conditions can still pose some risk. Red Dog Dumpsters is not financially responsible for damage caused by normal operation, but we always do our best to protect your property.
